Top 7 Things To Do in Melbourne
I love Melbourne. I love to eat as well and I think Melbourne and eating go well together. Below are more reasons to come see Melbourne.
It started with a top 5 list as I just wanted to give the highlights but I came with more so here's 7. The costs provided are estimates as of the time of writing. Enjoy!
7. Visit the Eureka Tower Skydeck
Location: 7 Riverside Quay, Southbank, Melbourne
Enjoy amazing 360-degree views of the Melbourne CBD from the Eureka Tower Skydeck. See the city's most iconic landmarks from the highest point in Melbourne.
If you dare to level-up a bit, explore "The Edge", which takes you to a glass box with views directly down the city.
There is also an option to purchase tickets that allow you 2 entries so you could enjoy the views in the morning and at night.
6. Take a Balloon Flight at Sunrise
Location: Flights over the CBD or the Yarra Valley
Cost: From AU$365
Be captivated with Melbourne's views at dusk. This one hour tour, which is dependent on the weather, can take you over the CBD and inner suburbs. Alternatively, the Yarra Valley, with its beautiful greenery and vineyards, could be your destination.
Melbourne is one of the few cities in the world that allow hot air balloons to fly around it's skyline.
5. Visit the Queen Victoria Market
Location: Corner of Elizabeth Street and Victoria Street
Cost: FREE (or take a tour from AU$49)
This shopping haven is the queen of all markets. You can buy almost anything from souvernirs, to clothing, accessories, fresh fruits and other food items.
Showcasing the diverse Australian culture, the Queen Victoria Markets is a must-visit for any tourist.
The market is open five days a week - Tuesdays and Thursdays to Sundays.
4. Take the Great Ocean Road Tour
Location: Drive to the south west of Melbourne
Cost: AU$65 - AU$130
Get the most from a day tour experience of Victoria's coastline. The views are absolutely stunning, including the iconic rock formations, the Twelve Apostles.
I love how most tours take you to places where you can walk on the beach. Alternatively, you can drive and stay longer on the places you want.
3. Watch the Australian Open
Location: Melbourne Park
Cost: AU$25 - AU$750 (single session)
Considered one of the major tennis tournaments in the world, the Australian Open is mainly for tennis lovers or for those who just want to experience what it is about.
The Australian Open is held in the last two weeks of January every year, which is also one of the busiest times of the city.
2. Watch the Penguin Parade at Phillip Island
Location: Just under 2 hours' drive south of Melbourne
Cost: AU$43 - AU$130 (tour)
This is one of my favorite things to do in Melbourne. Watching the penguins come back from their food hunting in the evening is really one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I was just in awe of nature... and of course the penguins are super adorable.
There are other places in Melbourne where you could see penguins but watching the penguin parade is really an event that everyone should experience at least once in their life.
1. Explore the City's Laneways
Location: Melbourne CBD and surrounds
Cost: Could be expensive in the end 🙂
